Nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, the high-altitude Jaie Valley meadows near Bhaderwah have emerged as the favored destination for picnickers this season.

Located at an impressive altitude of 7,850 feet and just 30 kilometers from Bhaderwah town, this pristine valley, surrounded by coniferous deodar forests, has witnessed a record-breaking influx of tourists. Between May and September, an astounding four lakh visitors flocked to this idyllic retreat.
Student Delight in Bhaderwah
Among these tourists, an impressive 1.20 lakh students embarked on educational journeys to the Jaie Valley. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner Dilmir Chowdhary, this valley has become the most visited high-altitude destination by students in the entire Jammu region. Schools, colleges, and other educational institutions sent their students to this picturesque spot for picnics, making it an exceptional educational experience amidst the natural wonders of the valley.

Massive Tourist Inflow
In addition to the students, more than three lakh tourists from within and outside Jammu and Kashmir explored the Jaie Valley during the same period. This surge in visitors marks a significant increase compared to previous years, reflecting the valley's growing popularity. The massive tourist footfall has had a profound impact on the local community, particularly the tribal Gujjar community that traditionally resides in these grasslands with their cattle during the summers.
Local Prosperity
Mohd Hussain Chechi, the lumberdar of the valley's tribal population, expressed how the influx of tourists has transformed their fortunes. Selling produce like milk and milk products directly from the meadows has become a lucrative venture, eliminating the need for expensive transportation to towns. Furthermore, around 30 Gujjar youngsters now offer pony rides to visitors, adding to their income. Many locals have also set up small makeshift shops, eateries, and tent house accommodations in the meadows.

Enchanted Visitors
Visitors, especially the students and their teachers, find themselves enchanted by the natural beauty of the high-altitude meadows. Shivali Parihar, a schoolteacher from Khellani, described her experience as a "complete package" with gushing water bodies, lush green meadows, towering coniferous trees, horse rides, organic food, and pleasant weather. She expressed her desire to return with her family in the future. Thirteen-year-old Khadeeja, a student from Doda, declared Jaie Valley as the best and most easily accessible picnic spot in the Chenab region, highlighting the joy of water play, cricket games, pony rides, and dancing in the cool climate.
