Ahmedabad is all set to host the 8th edition of the Adani Ahmedabad Marathon this Sunday, November 24, 2024. Taking place along the stunning Sabarmati Riverfront, this annual event is a highlight for fitness enthusiasts and the local community alike. This year, 18,500 participants will join the race, slightly fewer than last year but with no drop in excitement.

Event Details
The marathon will begin and end at the Sabarmati Riverfront Sports Park. Runners can participate in four categories:
- Full marathon (42.195 km)
- Half marathon (21.097 km)
- 10 km run
- 5 km run
Races for All Levels of Runners
The marathon offers four exciting race categories:
Full Marathon (42.195 km): Around 1,000 runners will start at 4:45 am from Paldi, covering iconic landmarks like Atal Bridge, Gandhi Ashram, and Ellis Bridge, offering scenic views of the riverfront. Shorter races also showcase parts of this beautiful route, making the event accessible to runners of all levels.
Half Marathon (21.097 km): This race will see 3,500 participants.
10 km Run: The most popular category with 6,000 runners.
5 km Run: Designed for casual runners, with 8,000 participants.
Special Guests and Highlights
The marathon will be flagged off by chess grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa, joined by actor Saiyami Kher. These personalities add charm to the event, boosting enthusiasm among participants.
In a unique initiative, the marathon supports the Run4OurSoldiers campaign, honoring India's armed forces. Defense personnel will be among the runners, reflecting the event's community spirit.
Health and Safety
Safety is a top priority for the organizers. Over 21 medical booths and hydration centers will be placed along the route, with quick response teams and ambulances ready to assist. KD Hospital has partnered to provide medical and physiotherapy support, ensuring a smooth experience for participants.
The marathon also emphasizes sustainability. Recycled water bottles will be used to create park benches, highlighting the event's eco-friendly approach.
Road Closures and Traffic Advisory
To ensure the smooth flow of the marathon, significant traffic adjustments have been planned in the city. According to Neeta Desai, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Ahmedabad Traffic Police, roads on both sides of the riverfront will remain closed from 4 am to 11 am on Sunday. However, Riverfront Road beyond the Subhash Bridge and Airport Road junction will remain open. These measures aim to create a safe and enjoyable experience for both the participants and residents.
Grand Prizes and Rewards
Winners of the full marathon will receive a prize of ₹1 lakh, while all participants will take home a finisher's medal, merchandise, and an E-timing certificate. Advanced RFID chips will be used to track runners, ensuring accurate timing and fair results.
