To solve the growing problem of traffic jams at the Sindhubhan Road Junction, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has announced plans to build a new bridge. This major infrastructure project, worth ₹118 crores, will stretch 870 meters and include six lanes. The new bridge is expected to help over 1 lakh drivers who use the SP Ring Road daily, especially during rush hours.
An official from Auda has shared details about the bridge's design. The bridge will be 27 meters wide and will have service roads 11 meters wide on each side. These service roads will offer a smooth route under the bridge, helping reduce traffic by providing an alternative path for commuters. The bridge will also include a RCC crash barrier for safety and will have 38 spans. The part leading towards Bhopal will be 272 meters long, while the stretch towards Science City will cover 150 meters, ensuring good connectivity in both directions.
The construction of the bridge is set to begin soon, and the project is expected to be finished within two years. This timeline is important to the local community, as they are eagerly awaiting a solution to the traffic congestion that has been a daily challenge for commuters. But the bridge is just one part of Auda's plan. The authority also aims to reduce traffic in the entire SP Ring Road area by building overbridges or underpasses at busy junctions along the 76 km long road. This plan shows Auda's commitment to improving traffic conditions, safety, and convenience for all drivers.
The project will be financially supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which will provide grants to help cover the costs. This financial support highlights the importance of the project and the positive effects it is expected to have on the city's infrastructure and traffic management.
