The Municipal Corporation has opened a new Sports Activity Center on the SIMS Railway Overbridge near the Science City approach. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the project, which turns a section of the overbridge into a space for sports and recreation. This unique initiative combines fun, fitness, and community engagement.

The center is divided into 11 sections, with six dedicated to indoor sports facilities and five reserved for parking. Each area is carefully designed to cater to different activities and age groups.
Sports Facilities and Amenities
The Sports Activity Center offers spaces for a variety of indoor games. Span No. 3 is dedicated to pickleball, a sport gaining popularity worldwide. Spans 4 and 5 include facilities for air hockey, table tennis, chess, football, carrom, and a pool table. These areas also feature games for children, making it an ideal spot for families. Span No. 6 houses a cafeteria and a toilet block to provide additional convenience for visitors.
Beyond sports, the center includes features to make it a lively community space. Plans include:
- A landscaped garden
- A children's play area
- Box cricket facilities
- Thematic sculptures
- Food stalls
- Decorative paintings and lighting
These additions are designed to create a welcoming environment for people of all ages.
City-Wide Expansion Plans
Inspired by the success of this project, the Municipal Corporation plans to develop similar facilities under seven more bridges across the city. These include the Dinesh Chamber Flyover, Rajendra Park Flyover, Ghodasar Flyover, Anjali Flyover, Shahibaug Railway Overbridge, Guru Railway Overbridge, and Gujarat College Railway Overbridge. Tenders have already been invited for these projects.
The goal of this expansion is to use urban spaces creatively, providing more residents with access to recreational and sporting activities close to their homes.
Promoting Community Well-Being
This initiative is a step toward creating a healthier and more active community. By repurposing urban infrastructure, the project not only promotes physical fitness but also encourages social interaction and a sense of togetherness among residents.
The inauguration of the Sports Activity Center on the SIMS Railway Overbridge marks the beginning of a transformation in how public spaces are utilized in the city. It is a promising move to enhance urban life and encourage a vibrant, active lifestyle for everyone.
