Ahmedabad Closes Key Road for Sabarmati Ashram Redevelopment Project; Check Details

In an important development for Ahmedabad, authorities have announced the permanent closure of a major road. This decision supports the ambitious Sabarmati Ashram Redevelopment Project, a joint effort between the Central and State governments to revitalize Mahatma Gandhi's historic ashram.

Ahmedabad Closes Key Road

The 800-meter road between Batrisi Bhavan and Cargo Motors will be closed to all traffic, effective from Friday midnight. This move, confirmed by In-Charge Police Commissioner and Additional DGP Ajay Choudhary of the Special Branch, aims to preserve and enhance the Sabarmati Ashram, transforming it into a more attractive and accessible visitor site. Violations of the road closure will result in legal consequences, highlighting the seriousness of this new rule.

The Sabarmati Ashram Redevelopment Project has been planned to create better facilities for the large number of visitors who come to the ashram every year. As a tribute to Gandhi's legacy, the project aims to honor his life and teachings, offering a peaceful place for learning about his work and values. To oversee this important task, the Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust has been established, ensuring that the redevelopment respects Gandhi's legacy and enhances the site's historical and cultural significance.

To reduce any inconvenience caused by the road closure, authorities have arranged an alternative route for regular commuters. Travelers who would typically drive between Subhash Bridge Circle and Vadaj will now be guided along the 132-feet ring road, leading towards the Ranip Bus Stand. From there, a new road directs drivers to Cargo Motors and onto the RiverFront West Road. This rerouting plan aims to maintain the city's traffic flow while allowing the redevelopment project to progress smoothly.

The Sabarmati Ashram is a cherished symbol of India's freedom struggle, and this redevelopment project is a key step toward preserving this rich history. By creating a more accessible and welcoming space, the government hopes to honor Gandhi's legacy of peace, non-violence, and unity. The redevelopment will allow both locals and visitors to connect with Gandhi's teachings in a serene environment.

This road closure and the ongoing development efforts mark an important chapter in Ahmedabad's story. While change may be challenging, the city's commitment to respecting its heritage remains strong. This transformation will not only enhance the Sabarmati Ashram but also ensure that future generations continue to find inspiration in Gandhi's life and legacy.
