In a big step towards improving travel in Agra, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has started work to connect two major railway stations-Agra Cantt and Raja Ki Mandi-directly to the city's metro network. This plan includes the construction of a 12-metre wide pathway at both stations to help passengers move easily between the metro and railway platforms. This development is expected to begin soon and will make daily commuting smoother and faster for thousands of people.
Improved access for railway passengers
UPMRC is focusing on better connectivity at Agra Cantt and Raja Ki Mandi railway stations as part of this project. The new pathways at both stations will be 12 metres wide and offer a direct link to the metro stations. These connections are being made to reduce walking distance and save time for passengers.
Agra Cantt is one of the busiest railway stations in the city, with more than 25,000 passengers using it daily. In addition to those boarding trains, many others come to the station to drop off or receive loved ones. This huge daily footfall shows how important it is to have easy access to public transport nearby. With the metro now becoming a key part of Agra's transit system, these new pathways will make switching between train and metro easier than ever.

New metro corridor to boost connectivity
The new metro line being planned will be Agra's second corridor, and Agra Cantt Railway Station will be one of its main stops. This corridor will include ten stations in total, stretching along Sultanpura Road and MG Road. Seven of these stations will be located on MG Road. This development is set to offer better connectivity to different parts of the city and reduce dependence on road transport.
UPMRC is also working on building elevated metro stations along National Highway-19. For this, three rig machines are being used to dig and lay the foundations. The goal is to complete this part of the project in around one and a half years. These elevated stations will help passengers move quickly between areas, cutting down travel time and traffic congestion.
Pathway built near Agra College
Another important part of this ongoing development is a 36-metre-long pathway in front of the Agra College ground. This pathway has already been completed without any digging. The no-dig method helped in keeping daily life undisturbed while construction took place. This pathway connects both sides of the road and helps pedestrians cross safely and quickly. It's an example of how UPMRC is using smart and less disruptive methods to carry out its plans.
