A Delhi Metro commuter recently shared her frustrating daily experience while travelling from West Delhi to Vishwavidyalaya, not because of the usual crowd, but because of what she described as a "complete lack of civic sense" in the women's coach. Posting on Reddit, she listed several unpleasant behaviours she witnesses
every day that make her journey tiring and stressful, even though she chooses the ladies' coach for safety and comfort.
List of 5 Major Complaints Brought to Light
• Her first complaint was about poor hygiene. She described standing near a sick woman who kept sneezing without covering her mouth. She urged people to wear masks when unwell and maintain basic manners, reminding everyone that politeness should continue even after COVID.
• Another major issue she mentioned was the frequent pushing and shoving during rush hours. She said that fights have become common, with one even breaking out at Rajendra Place station between two women. She criticised passengers who enter at the last minute and take out their frustration on others.
• The commuter also highlighted the constant noise inside the coach. Many passengers talk loudly on the phone or play videos and reels without earphones. She requested everyone to lower the volume and use earphones, saying it was unfair to disturb others.
• She further pointed out that seats reserved for the elderly or differently abled are often not given up unless someone insists. She called it basic decency to offer a seat immediately to those in need.
• Another concern was people sitting on the floor during crowded hours. She said while tiredness is understandable, sitting on the floor when there's hardly space to stand is unsafe and inconsiderate.
Ending her post, she reminded everyone to behave responsibly as citizens of the capital, saying, "Do better, people." Her post sparked an online debate about civic sense in public transport.
