Founded in the 11th century by the Bhati Rajput clan from Jaisalmer, the town was once ruled by the great Ahluwalia Dynasty. 1. Elysee Palace

Renowned for its exceptional architecture, the town is home to the beautiful and elaborate Elysee Palace. Constructed in the year of 1962 by Kanwar Bikram Singh, the Indo-French architecture of the palace is something worth your time and money. With mesmerising monolithic and magnificent facade, the palace is now transformed to a Montgomery Guru Nanak School.
2. Jagatjit Palace

The former residence of the Maharaja of the State of Kapurthala, Maharaja Jagatjit Singh, the subsistence of the Jagatjit Palace dates back to the year 1908. With a hint of the remarkable Indo-Saracen architecture, the palace is fashioned after the grand Palace of Versailles. Of late, the Jagatjit Palace is home to the Sainik School to train boys for the National Defense Academy, and makes for undoubtedly one of the most magnificent sights to behold.
3. Kanjli Wetland

Established by building blocks across the Beas River in 1870 to provide irrigation facilities to the near-by areas, the Kanjli Wetland sprawls across an area of 56 sq m of land. The man-made wetland is a great picnic spot set against a striking natural background. This popular getaway among tourists and locals alike is a great place for photography enthusiasts and is home to a plethora of avi-fauna.
4. Shalimar Garden
Famous for its distinctive architectural exhibits, the Shalimar Garden is one of the many such most frequented tourist spots that provide a momentary escape from the chaos of the city life. With beautifully crafted pavements and gardens the Shalimar Garden is a great place to spend leisurely hours at. With red sandstone obelisk cenotaphs of the Royal family of Kapurthala and alluring vibrant flora adorning the garden, this tourist spot is located right at the heart of the town.
