Located near Myanmar border in the Champhai district, Murlen National park is one of the richest parts of Mizoram and is covered with tropical dense forests. It was established in 1991 and is spread over an area of 200 square kilometres. Murlen National Park is home to several rare and endangered species of flora and fauna.

With 150 species of birds, 35 species of medicinal plants, 15 species of mammals and 4 species of orchids, this beautiful national park is the luxuriant part of the Champhai district. As per the legends, it is believed that Mura, a ferocious and cruel eagle, used to prey upon local villagers and hence, the villagers came out with an idea of caves so that they could protect themselves from the atrocities of Mura.
