Srisailam, a famous pilgrimage site in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, recently hosted an exciting seaplane trial run. This seaplane trial run, successfully conducted on November 8, 2024, marks a significant step toward launching regular seaplane services between Vijayawada and Srisailam. The service is a part of Andhra Pradesh's effort to boost tourism and improve connectivity in the region.

Srisailam holds a special place for devotees as it is home to the Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, a highly revered pilgrimage spot for Lord Shiva's followers. Here, Lord Mallikarjuna is worshiped in the form of a linga, protected by a three-hooded cobra, adding to the unique charm of the temple. The town lies peacefully on the banks of the River Krishna, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, making it a popular spot for tourists and pilgrims alike.
The newly planned seaplane service will operate between Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada and a jetty near the ropeway in Srisailam. By taking this water-based route, visitors can reach Srisailam faster and enjoy a memorable travel experience over the river. The distance between Vijayawada and Srisailam is approximately 263 kilometers (164 miles) by road, but the seaplane service is expected to reduce travel time and offer a scenic aerial view of the region.
The trial run of the seaplane service was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, showing the high level of interest and support for this new initiative. Both officials expressed their hope that this service will attract more tourists to Srisailam and allow locals and visitors to experience a new way of traveling within the state.
This seaplane service is part of a larger initiative by the state to develop tourism in Andhra Pradesh. The state government is keen on providing unique travel experiences to visitors, and this seaplane service is one way of making that happen.
