A new four-lane road is set to connect Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur with Godda in Jharkhand. The land acquisition process has already begun for this project. Spanning 27.25 kilometres, 14.30 kilometres of this road will be constructed within Bhagalpur. With an estimated cost of ₹1006 crore, the road is expected to be completed in two and a half years.

The construction of the road will significantly ease travel for residents of Kahalgaon, Pirpainti, and Sabour to Jharkhand. Additionally, it will facilitate easier access to Godda, Deoghar, and Dumka. The section from Mahagama to Hansdiha is already under construction. From Hansdiha to Chaupa Mod in Deoghar, a four-lane road will be available.
Four-Lane Road Development
The proposed route from Echari in Kahalgaon block to Mahagama in Godda district will be a four-lane highway. Land acquisition efforts have been accelerated with surveys underway. In Kahalgaon circle, land will be acquired across four villages, while in Sanhoula circle, 17 villages are involved.
The land acquisition department plans to publish a 3D list with the names of landowners before proceeding further. This new road will stretch 27.25 kilometres from Echari to Mahagama, with 14.30 kilometres being a greenfield segment within Bhagalpur district.
Cancelled Airstrip Plans
Initially, the Echari-Mahagama four-lane road was intended to include Bihar's first airstrip spanning four kilometres. However, due to feasibility issues, the airstrip component has been cancelled by the department.
This change means that the road construction will proceed without incorporating an airstrip as initially planned. Despite this alteration, the main objective remains unchanged: improving connectivity between Bihar and Jharkhand through this significant infrastructure project.
Once completed, travellers can reach Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar via Echari, Mahagama, and Hansdiha using the greenfield route. The journey from Bhagalpur to Deoghar will take just two hours.
