Lucknow Link Expressway is expected to make travel between western Uttar Pradesh and the Purvanchal

A new Lucknow Link Expressway is expected to make travel between western Uttar Pradesh and the Purvanchal region much faster. The proposed six-lane greenfield expressway could reduce the travel time between the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and the Purvanchal Expressway from around 1.5 to 2 hours to just 25 to 30 minutes.

The new expressway will be nearly 51 km long and is being developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 4,775 crore. It will provide direct connectivity between several major highways and expressways, including the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway and Yamuna Expressway.

At present, vehicles travelling from the Agra-Lucknow Expressway to the Purvanchal Expressway have to pass through Lucknow city. Traffic congestion in the city often increases the journey time considerably. Once the new link is operational, vehicles will be able to bypass the city and travel directly between the two expressway corridors.
The project is expected to be particularly useful for vehicles coming from Delhi, Noida, Agra and Mathura. They will be able to travel towards the Purvanchal region without entering Lucknow. The new route could also provide smoother access to destinations such as Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

Heavy vehicles and trucks are expected to benefit significantly. Thousands of trucks currently passing through Lucknow could use the new expressway instead. This could reduce traffic pressure on the city's roads and may also help lower pollution levels.

The improved connectivity could also make travel towards Gorakhpur and the Nepal border easier for vehicles coming from western Uttar Pradesh. The expressway is expected to strengthen road connectivity between western Uttar Pradesh and Purvanchal while improving the movement of passengers and goods across the region.
