Traveling from Gurugram to Vadodara, which usually took 20 to 22 hours, will soon take only 10 hours. This big change is because the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is almost complete, especially the important tunnel near Kota. This new route will make travel much faster and easier between the two cities.
A Big Step in Road Travel
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is 1,380 kilometers long and is the longest expressway in India. It is designed for vehicles to run at speeds of up to 120 kmph. The whole project costs Rs 95,000 crore and is not only for better travel but also to help business and tourism in the areas it connects.
The expressway includes a 4-kilometer-long tunnel near the Mukundra Hills. This tunnel will help vehicles cross the hilly area more easily. The expressway will have eight lanes and will go from Delhi to Mumbai when fully finished. In the future, it can be expanded to twelve lanes without disturbing traffic because of the 21-meter-wide median in the middle.
Progress So Far
A large part of the expressway is already working. The section from Gurugram to Dausa is open and has reduced travel time between Delhi NCR and eastern Rajasthan. From Dausa, the road goes through Rajasthan toward Kota. This part is already helping travelers.
The tunnel near Kota is being built to make it easier to drive through the hills. After crossing the tunnel, the road continues into Gujarat and reaches Vadodara. This city is an important part of the route and connects further toward Mumbai.
Modern and Eco-Friendly
Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have shared that this expressway is built with modern and green ideas. Near the Mukundra Tiger Reserve, special care is being taken to protect wildlife. Tunnels and other eco-friendly features are included to reduce harm to the environment.
According to reports, the full Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be finished by October 2025. Once done, it will change the way people travel between Delhi and Mumbai. It will also improve the road network in India in a big way.
