Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway: Key Road Closed for 2 Years, Alternate Routes Announced

Vadodara is undergoing a major infrastructure upgrade with the construction of a ₹56 crore flyover near the Abacus Junction. This ambitious project by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is aimed at improving traffic flow in one of the city's busiest areas. However, this development comes with temporary challenges, as a crucial road connecting the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway to Amit Nagar Circle has been closed from November 22, 2024. The construction will take about two years to complete, necessitating the use of alternate routes for smooth traffic movement.

Ahmedabad-Vadodara Key Road Closed

Reasons for the Closure

The road closure is essential for building the new flyover, which spans from the Dumad bridge to the Sama Canal Road and from the Abacus Circle to the Amit Nagar Bridge. This flyover will incorporate the Abacus sculpture, an iconic landmark that was relocated to the Sama Lake crossroad in 2017.

Traffic Diversions and Routes

To manage the traffic effectively during this period, the Vadodara City Police have introduced detailed diversion plans for both light and heavy vehicles.

- For Light Vehicles:

Light vehicles have two main alternate routes:
1. From the Sama Canal Junction, vehicles can proceed towards Sama-Chhani Canal Road, passing through Vishwakarma Circle and Mamlatdar Office Junction to reach Mangal Pandey Road and the L&T Circle.
2. Another option directs traffic from Sama Canal Junction through Matrubhavan and Sherwood junctions, connecting to the Sama Link Road.

- For Heavy Vehicles:

Two alternate routes are designed for heavy vehicles, including state transport buses:
1. Vehicles can pass under the Dumad Bridge towards the Golden Bridge via Harni Road, continuing through Gada Circle, Old Octroi Circle, and Manek Park Circle to reach Amit Nagar Circle.
2. Another route starts at the Dumad Bridge, leading to the Fertiliser Bridge, then onto Chhani Road, passing through Nizampura and Fatehgunj, ensuring connectivity to Amit Nagar Circle.

Significance of the Project

The decision to close key roads highlights Vadodara's focus on enhancing urban infrastructure. The new flyover promises to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between major city areas. While the construction phase may cause inconvenience, the well-planned detour routes aim to minimize disruption for commuters.

The project also reflects a blend of practicality and aesthetics. By incorporating the Abacus sculpture into the flyover design, the city preserves its cultural identity while advancing its infrastructure. This development marks a significant step in Vadodara's journey toward becoming a more modern and efficient urban hub.
