Gavilgarh Fort dates back to almost 300 years. Situated near Chikhaldara in Amravati, the fort is situated at a height of 1103 m and lies 30 km north to the old capital of Berar, Achalpur.

The fort derives its name from the Gavalis. Ahmad Shah Wali constructed the fort in 1425. It was later reconstructed by Fateh-ullah Imad-ul-Mulk.

Gavilgarh has been constructed at two levels, with the outer fort lower than the inner fort. The iconic Delhi Darwaza separates the two forts. It consists of a mosque which has a Pathan style of architecture. Eight of the two tanks found there are still in working condition. One can see intricate carvings of bulls, lions, elephants and tigers apart from the Urdu, Hindi and Arabic scripts on the walls of this fort.
