Top Places to Visit in Western India in June

Is the monsoon dampening your vacation plans? Not sure where to head to in this season? Well here are a few places in Western India where one can head to this June. One can head to the coastal regions like Alibag, Ganpatipule and Chiplun and laze under the sun or visit places of historic importance like the Ellora caves and Kajrat. Alibag

Alibag

Alibag is a small town on the western coast of Maharashtra and lies in the Konkan region in Raigad district. The Kolaba Fort, which is a major attraction here, is currently in a state of dilapidation and can be seen clearly from the Alibag Beach. Tourists can visit this fort during the low tides. The Kaneshwar and Someshwar Temples are two iconic temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. This splendidly designed temples are visited by a lot of devotees. Also as it is surrounded by water on three of its four sides, Alibag is home to several beautiful beaches. The beaches are lined with coconut plantations and betel-nut trees, giving it a tropical-beach feel.

Amboli is a little hill station located in the Sahayadri Ranges in Sindhudurg District. It is a perfect weekend getaway here. The Shirgaonkar Falls, Mahadev Falls and Nagatta Falls add to the scenic beauty of this place. It is an excellent picnic spot. There are many a view points here namely Sea View Point, Kavelsad Point, Parikshit Point and Mahadevgad Point. All these points offers a panaromic view of the Arabian Sea and the Konkan Coast.

Amby Valley is essentially a weekend getaway put into effect by the Sahara Group. It is a resort with provision for fun activities both indoor and outdoor. The essence of Amby Valley city lies in the way nature has seamlessly blended with man-made marvels. The city boasts of beautiful terrain, landscapes in some places, natural and artificial lakes.

Chiplun is a beautiful city located in the Ratnagiri district. Chiplun lies between the Western Ghats to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west thus keeping the weather comfortably pleasant all year round. It being the home of Lord Parshurama, features some iconic temples. One can find tourists and photographers often at the Gowalkot Fort, which is a major attraction here.

Ellora Caves is an archaeological site about 30 km away from Aurangabad and is listed as a World Heritage Site. A total of 34 caves, these constructs basically fall under three groups - the Buddhist Group, the Hindu Group and the Jain Group. All the caves are in close proximity, reflecting the harmony these very religions prevailed with during those times.

Ganpatipule is a fascinating beach town along the Konkan Coast, and belongs to the district of Ratnagiri. The Swayambhu Ganpati Temple at Ganpatipule is a massive attraction of this village. The beaches of Ganpatipule are not only pristine with clear water, but the region is blessed with abundant flora. Mangroves and Coconut palms line the entire stretch of the beach, making it a luscious view from afar.The Raigad Fort and Raigad Lighthouse are two other sites in the area that must not be missed.

A city and sub-district in Raigad District in the state of Maharashtra, Karjat is a picturesque station located on a mountainous terrain. It is especially sought after for trekking. It offers various trekking routes for novice trekkers as well as expert ones who are looking for some challenge. One can also choose to visit the ancient monuments like the Peth Fort or the Buddhist relics, the Kondana Caves. The artistic sculptures and paintings found in the caves are bound to interest any historian or architectural enthusiast.

The main attraction is the Roman Catholic Church, which boasts a distinct Portuguese style of architecture. wildlife enthusiasts can opt for the Vasona Lion Safari, approximately ten kilometres from Silvassa.
