In search of water for ablution, he used his staff to pierce the ground, and to his amazement, milk gushed out from the hole. Although astounded by the miracle, he believed that the milk was meant for drinking and not for ablution. Praying to God, he requested the milk to be transformed back into water, and his wish was granted. The water retained its white color and cold temperature, thus bestowing the valley its name - Doodhpathri, the Valley of Milk.

Doodhpathri is situated in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, approximately 45 km from Srinagar, the summer capital of the state.
