Jharkhand, the 28th state of India is less traversed or explored. The scenic beauty of the place is what makes it most attractive. Tourism in Jharkhand comprises of pilgrimages, national parks and other industrial townships. But the picturesque nature and mesmerising beauty of Jharkhand might leave you spell bound.

Waterfalls, lakes and dams in Jharkhand are favourite hub for photographers. Tourists interested in the breathtaking sceneries can spend some of their precious moment by these spectacular places. Waterfalls in Jharkhand are scattered throughout the state. Ranchi, the capital city is renowned for owing some of the amazing falls which can easily compete Jog Falls in Karnataka and Hogenakkal Waterfalls in Tamil Nadu.

None the less are lakes and dams which are highly in demand during the picnic seasons. Other than being a hub for tourists, these dams in Jharkhand are helpful as a part of hydel power projects. These dams contribute as multi purpose dams under Damodar Valley Corporation. Some of the lakes in Jharkhand bordered with wildlife areas, makes it more interesting for the tourists travelling to these regions.

Usri Falls

Situated in Giridih, Usri Falls is one of the most scenic falls in Jharkhand. Being surrounded by forest makes it all the more alluring to the tourists. It is a popular picnic spot also for people residing in and around Giridih. It is easily accessible from the main township by auto rickshaws, tonga and taxis. The government has also taken initiative to make this place more suitable for tourists.

Dimna Lake

This lake is situated in Jamshedpur and the scenic beauty of the place comprises of the Dalma Hills as its surrounding. The enticing view of the lake has made it one of the most attrctive spots of the steel city. Apart from picnic tourists can enjoy boating, jetskiing, rowing and water scooting. November to February is the ideal time to explore the beauty of Dimna Lake.

Hundru Falls

Situated in the capital city, Ranchi, Hundru Falls is listed as the 34th highest waterfalls in India. The extreme height from which the water flows makes the view breathtaking. The force of water has eroded the rocks into different structures which also adds to the beauty of the falls. During monsoon the gushing water makes the view spell binding while dry season is best for picnic.

Though famous as pilgrimage spot for Jains, Parasnath in Giridih is equally in demand for its scenic beauty comprising of the hilly terrain. As such it is often visited by photographers and trekkers other than those heading for pilgrimage. Adventurous sports like parasailing and paragliding is being planned by the Tourism Department in order to make this place more popular amongst tourists.

Tourists can count 500 steps while descensing down the falls, which also comprises an appealing beauty. Tourist can halt at the rest house close by which nestles a Buddhist shrine. The falls is easily accesible by rail and road transportations from Ranchi.

Maithon Dam is located in the vicinity of coal capital of India, Dhanbad. Other than controlling flood and generating electricity, the dam is also bewitching for its pictorial beauty. A bird sanctuary and deer park can keep the the photographers busy. Boating facility entertains tourists. It is close to Dhanbad Railway Station and is very popular during picnic season.

It is 14km from Dhanbad station and is easily accessible by rail and road conveniences.

Panchet Dam

One of the multi purpose projects under Damodar Valley Corporation, Panchet Dam located in Dhanbad, is built over river Damodar. Panchet Hill overlooking the dam is another captivating feature of the place. Panchet is easily accessible from Dhanbad and Asansol in West Bengal. Tourists venturing out for Panchet are advised to visit this place during winter. Not only the rushing crowd but also the pleasing environment can be sensed.

Hirni Falls

Located in the West Singhbhum district, Hirni Falls is mush favoured because of its scenic beauty. Situated amidst thick forest, the falls has slowly become a favourite spot for the nature lovers. It is at a distance of 70km from Ranchi. This fascinating falls of Jharkhand nestles a tourist hut on one side and stony steps on other side that leads to a hill top. The gushing falls and dense forest can be relished from an observatory tower at the top of the hill.
