101 Darwaja House

One of the top places to visit here is the 101 Darwaja House, an interesting example of heritage building in the town of Pochampally. This must-see attraction is believed to be at least 150 years old and has been named so because of the 101 doors and windows built in the building that all open to scenic views.The building is a favorite with the tourists who are keen to see such a house. Due to security concerns not all doors and windows are left open, but if you coax the security guard then they might open a few of them. The building is now a school, Shanthi Nikethan, for the local children. Visitors are allowed into the building only on weekends.

Vinobha Mandir

Another must-see attraction here is the Vinobha Mandir. It is an ashram that is dedicated to Vinobha Bhave, the man who ushered in the Bhoodan Movement in India. The ashram is very significant from a religious point of view, and has attained temple status. The temple holds plenty of importance for the people of Pochampally. Inside the temple are the statues of Acharya Vinobha Bhave and Shri Vedire Ramchendra Reddy, the man who was the first to donate his land for the poor. Outside the temple is the Bhoodan Stupam, a symbol of the movement that ushered in a new era into the country.

How to Reach Pochampally

By Air: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport or the Shamshabad Airport is the nearest airport to Pochampally, located 50 km away. You can take a private cab from the airport to reach the town of Pochampally.

By Train: There is no railway station at Pochampally, and the nearest railway station is at Bibinagar, 16 km away. Bibinagar railway station is well connected to the neighbouring towns and cities within Andhra Pradesh.

By Road: Pochampally is easily accessible by road if you are coming from Hyderabad. The city of Hyderabad and Pochampally town are at a distance of 35 km. There are many buses that ply from Hyderabad to Pochampally. In fact, some private bus operators also run regular tours to Pochampally where the tourists can spend a day taking in all that the town has to offer.
