Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is also known as the city of waterfalls. This picturesque city offers a scenic view of many waterfalls, rock formations and hillocks. What makes it even better is that you can come here any time of the year and enjoy the beauty of the city.

Earlier known as Lohardaga, Ranchi is now a well industrialised city and is slowly turning into a metropolitan place.

Some of the tourist sightseeing attractions in Ranchi include the Dassam Falls, Jonha Falls, Hirni Falls, Hundru Falls, Ranchi Hill, Tagore Hill, Ranchi Lake and more. Visitors coming here are left mesmerised by the beauty of nature that surrounds this otherwise industrialised city. Here is a list of the few places you should visit in Ranchi.

By Air: The Birsa Munda domestic airport at Ranchi has direct flights to Patna, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The airport is located 7 km from the city.

By Train: Ranchi is well connected with major cities of India via rail routes and is one of the most profitable stations of the South Eastern Railways. The station is well connected with the metros and major cities of India like Jaipur, Delhi, Chennai, Bilaspur, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar.

By Road: National Highway 33 and 23 pass through the city of Ranchi. Buses of the Jharkhand State Road Transport Corporation, as well as private buses, ply regularly to connect Ranchi to the other parts of Jharkhand. Regular bus services are there to Kolkata and other towns of neighbouring states.

Dassam Falls

Dassam Falls

The Dassam Falls is a major tourist sightseeing attraction in Ranchi. Falling from a height of nearly 144 ft, the Kanchi river makes for a breathtaking sight. It is a hub for nature lovers and photographers. Tourists are warned not to take a bath in the falls, or at least be careful while bathing in the stream as it is home to snakes and crocodiles.

Jonha Fall

Jonha Fall

Another place to visit in Ranchi is the Jonha Fall, which is named after the nearest village, Jonha. It is also known as Gautam Dhara as Lord Buddha is believed to have bathed here. There is a temple and an ashram built atop the Gautam Pahar, which is dedicated to Lord Buddha. Every Tuesdays and Thursdays a fair is held here, which attracts many tourists.

Ranchi Hill

Ranchi Hill

Ranchi Hill is one of the favourite tourist sightseeing attractions in Ranchi. The hill provides a panoramic view of the entire region and is a hotspot for photographers. It is also a hub for adventure addicts who can go on trekking and rock climbing here. There is a temple at the summit of the hill which is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Ranchi Lake

Ranchi Lake

Located on the foothills of Ranchi Hill is the beautiful Ranchi Lake. It is located at a height of 2,140 ft above sea level and is a man made lake. It is a hotspot for bird watchers as many a bird can be seen in this region. Tourists can enjoy a boat ride here, and it is also an ideal spot for picnics.

Tagore Hill

Tagore Hill

Tagore Hill is a must visit place in Wokha. Named after Rabindra Nath Tagore, this hill was previously known as Morahbadi hill until the poet bought it and the adjoining areas. It is believed that many of his books were written here in the calmness and serenity of this place. There is a house atop this hill where the poet had penned down many of his books, and today visitors can visit this place.

Hirni Falls

Hirni Falls

A major tourist sightseeing attraction in Ranchi is the Hirni Falls, which is situated 80 km from Ranchi. There is an observation tower here from where visitors can enjoy the beauty of the falls and also get the view of the jungles that lie beyond.

Hundru Falls

Hundru Falls

Another place to visit in Ranchi is the Hundru Falls, which is about 45 km away from Ranchi. River Swarnarekha, which tumbles from a height of 320 ft, is a sight to behold. The water flows down to a frothy pool, where you can take a rejuvenating dip and enjoy. It is also a place where you can go trekking as well.

Kanke Dam

Kanke Dam

Kanke Dam is a picturesque spot at the foothills of Gonda Hills in Ranchi. The calm and serene atmosphere and secluded environment attracts many tourists, who are looking for relaxation and seclusion. It is an ideal place for nature lovers, photographers and also those intending to go on a picnic.
