Erode, located in the southern peninsula, is nestled on the banks of the river Bhavani and Cauvery. The pristine calm waters of both the rivers flow on either side of the town, making Erode a perfect escapade for travellers looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the common humdrum. The Bhavanisagar Dam, constructed on the Bhavani river, is considered by the locals as a very holy place, for it is located right at the confluence of the rivers Bhavani and Kaveri. What sets this dam apart from the other dams is its striking milieu and the beautiful garden, which makes for a perfect picnic spot for the locals and the travellers alike. It is also known by the name of ‘Triveni Sangam' of the south, by many, owing to the location of the dam. There are boat rides, train rides and arrangements of other rides are available for the amusement of the kids. The Bhavanisagar Dam is one of the very few earthen dams in the country. The dam stands at a length of 32 m height and runs for a length of 8 km, with water roaring out of it, making for a spectacular sight to behold!

Situated 83 km northeast of the municipal town of Erode, the Karadiyur viewpoint is where people get to surround themselves with the ethereal beauty of nature. From here, the visitors can get a panoramic view of the landscape, beautiful valleys, plains and the flat highlands of Erode from the peak. It is a popular vantage point among the tourists and is a major crowd puller in Erode.

Needless to say, the Vellode Bird Sanctuary poses for one of the best places to visit in Erode. It is touted as a paradise for bird lovers. With lush green pastures stretching for about 200 acres of the area, the sanctuary has a lake at the heart of it, flanked by a few observatory towers. The sanctuary is home to several migratory birds, like pelican, darters, teals, pintail ducks and so much more. Thousands of birds, from various breeds, flocking around, in an array of bright shades, makes one magnificent sight to behold. It is maintained by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, and was established back in the year of 1996.

The Government Museum of Erode is a sheer delight for all the culture buffs and history lovers. Established in the year of 1987, the Government Museum poses for an archive of several objects related to art, culture and anthropology. Some of the collections include Thanjore paintings, inscriptions belonging to the Kongu Chola dynasty, handicrafts from Bargur and others. Besides this, the museum is also a host to the botanical and zoological specimens, like palm-leaf manuscripts and so much more. The museum values art on a tremendous scale and also remains open on Sundays.

The dry and humid climatic conditions prevailing over Erode all throughout the year, makes the winter months of October to March, the best time to visit the town. The average temperature of the town around this time rises to a maximum of 20°C, making the weather very pleasant for travellers to explore around.

How To Reach Erode

By Air: The nearest airport that lies close to the town of Erode is the Peelamedu Airport, in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, which is at a distance of 90 km from the town. Once at the airport, there are options for a multitude of public transport, ready to take you to the town.

By Rail: The Erode Railway Junction is connected to the major cities of the country; hence, the most favourable way to reach this town would be by train.

By Road: Erode's bus terminal is well connected to the nearby cities and towns. There are regular buses that connect the town to the major cities of the country.
