By Siji

Surrounded by the Nilgiri Hills, Ooty is a scenic hill station offering stunning views of nature. This place has been a favourite tourist spot among nature lovers from all over the world. These hills turn blue with the blooming of Kurinji flowers making it a visual treat to the visitors. However, this natural phenomenon happens only once in 12 years and visitors are flooded here during this season.

Apart from the picturesque viewpoints and Ooty Lake, the place also has a few gardens that are worth exploring. The article takes you to these beautiful gardens in Ooty.

Botanical Garden

The Govt Botanical Garden is one among the mostly visited gardens in Ooty. This area of 22 hectares of land is built on the slopes of Doddabetta peak, another attraction in Ooty. The garden has a huge collection of shrubs, flowering trees and the rarest of lilies. The garden also boasts some of the rarest varieties of trees. The Monkey Puzzle Tree is one among them. The tree has been named so as it can't be climbed by monkeys too!

Ooty Gardens – A Visual Delight

The garden is divided into different sections namely Lower Garden, New Garden, Italian Garden, Conservatory, Fountain Terrace and Nurseries. Each of them have their specialities as well. Though it is a tourist spot, young couples around the place find their way to this beautiful space to seek privacy in the vast expanse of greenery.

Rose Garden

This beautiful garden in Ooty is the largest of its kind in India. Located at an altitude of around 2200m, the colourful garden extends up to four hectares of land. Since Ooty enjoys a tropical mountain climate, the climatic conditions are perfect for growing the roses. The garden that was established with around 1900 varieties of roses is now a fragrant splendour accommodating more than 20,000 varieties of roses.

Apart from the rose plants and divine smelling atmosphere, this garden has a number of rose creepers, rose tunnels, pergolas and bowers. The unique collection of roses here include Hybrid Tea Roses, Papagena, Floribunda, Miniature Roses and Ramblers.

Thread Garden

If Rose Garden is a natural wonder, the Thread Garden in Ooty is a man-made marvel. The garden is the first of its kind in the world and has a huge collection of flowers, plants, lotus ponds, climbers and the like that are made from thread, wire and canvas.

No artificial machinery is used for making these rare pieces of art. A unique self-invented technology named 'Four Dimensional Hand-Wound Embroidery' is used to make the ambience look more natural than artificial! Visitors can also buy these handmade artefacts that include wall hangings, birds, bouquets, etc.
