The administration of Delhi has declared a blanket prohibition on all forms of firecrackers during this Diwali season. This effort to reduce wintertime pollution was accompanied by the Delhi administration pleading with officials from the National Capital Region (NCR) not to issue firecracker licences. Penalties for violation include punishments of up to Rs 5,000 and three years in prison.

In Bihar, the State Pollution Control Board has echoed Delhi's stance with a blanket ban in main cities like Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, and Hajipur. However, they've shown a minute leniency with the allowance of 'green crackers'. In West Bengal, the state continues with its restrictions from previous years on timings for bursting fireworks. Additionally, green firecrackers are required to bear a verifiable QR code.
