Extinct Mount Kenya is a volcano that first developed approximately 3 million years ago & last erupted approximately 2.6 million years ago. Mount Kenya National Park was established in 1949, and in 1978 it was designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. In 1997, Mount Kenya National Park was ultimately designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After Kilimanjaro, it is the second-highest mountain in Africa and the tallest in Kenya. At about 5,250 feet, the mountain's base is located (at 1,600 meters). The circumference is roughly 95 miles at the 8,000-foot (2,440-meter) contour (153 km).
The Mount Kenya National Park encompasses Mount Kenya, which is located in the center of Kenya, just north of the equator. There are three summits on it. The highest peak in Kenya and the second highest in all of Africa is Batian, which rises to a height of 17,057 feet (5199 meters). Nelion and Lenana, the mountain's other two peaks, are located at 17,021 feet (5188 meters) and 16,355 feet (4985 meters), respectively.
Mount Kenya History:
Large and perfectly symmetrical, Mount Kenya is a volcanic cone. Its base has an average diameter of 120 km. It was created by the eruption of multiple layers of lava & agglomerates from a central vent in the surface of the earth between 2.6 and 3.1 million years ago. Lavas are composed of a mixture of coarse and fine particles that result from a violently explosive eruption in which shattered rock fragments are thrown from a central vent & fall on the slopes of the cone, finally undergoing consolidation into rock. The rather rapid outpouring of liquid rock created lava. Agglomerates are made up of a mix of coarse & fine particles.
According to the study, the glaciers reached a minimum elevation of 10,800 feet over their two lengthy glacial phases of formation (3300m). There are now 11 little glaciers on Mount Kenya. They are thinning, though, and no fresh ice is forming because the peak is now rarely covered in snow.

1) There are six entrance gates into Mount Kenya National Park, which covers 276 square miles and includes Mount Kenya.
2) Lakes, glaciers, summits, mineral springs, and forests are all around the park. Naturally, the most common ways to explore this varied and rocky area are via walking and hiking.
3) At Mount Kenya, the day and night are each 12 hours long, and the sun rises and sets at the same time every day.
4) Named after Maasai chieftains are the three peak summits: Batian, Nelion, and Lelana.
5) In September 1899, Sir Halford John Mackiner, Josef Brocherel, & Cesar Ollier became the first people to reach Batian, Mount Kenya's highest peak.
