India has a number of military and war museums that take us to the phase of history where lives were sacrificed, wars were fought and the land was preserved from invaders.

These war sites are worth a visit to know more about the soldiers who protect the nation and make each citizen proud to be from the land that holds its head high even when souls are torn apart in fighting for their nation.

Indian Air Force Museum, Palam

A visit to the Indian Air Force Museum in Palam, close to Delhi, gives you an insight into the histry of military aviation and Indian Air Force in India. This was however the only museum of its kind till the Naval Air Museum was unveiled in Goa. You can take a tour on the operations of Indian Air Force like the World War I and the Kargil War. The indoor display of the museum has historical photos, uniforms and weapons of IAF, small aircraft models and guns. The outdoor gallery has captured enemy vehicles and war trophies.

Naval Aviation Museum, Goa

Situated at Bogmalo beach near Dabolim in Goa, the Naval Aviation Museum is another site that is to be explored to know more about the Indian Navy and their operations. The museum has a collection of aircrafts, of which the the Lockheed Constellation is the largest aircraft. The visitors are allowed to take a walk through the aircraft. There are also aircrafts like Fairy Firefly from World War II.

The indoor gallery has exhibits of safety equipment for aircraft work, and several weapons used by The Indian Navy.

INS Vikrant, Mumbai

Located at the Naval dockyard at Mumbai, this decommisioned light aircraft carrier is now a floating museum. This carrier has played a key role in the war of 1971. The museum, however, is not open to the open to the public through the year.

The Jaisalmer War Museum at Rajasthan, popularly known as JWM, has an Honour Wall where all the names of the Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra gallantry award winners are inscribed. The museum also has two halls names Indian Army Hall and Laungewala Hall, an audio-visual room, a souvenir shop and a cafeteria. The museum was built during the Golden Jubilee Commemoration of the Indo-Pak War of 1965, to pay a tribute to the soldiers who fought and lost their lives for the nation.
