Why Fiji?
Over 300 islands make up the archipelago of Fiji, which is located in the South Pacific. Only 110 of them are inhabited; the others continue to be charming and beautiful in their natural state. History of Fiji:
According to Fijian tradition, the great chief Lutunasobasoba is credited with guiding his people to the new country of Fiji. Most researchers concur that people left Southeast Asia and crossed into the Pacific via the Malay Peninsula. The Melanesians and the Polynesians came together to create a highly developed civilization in this region long before the arrival of the Europeans.
The Europeans first learned about the Fiji group by accident. The earliest of these discoveries was made in 1643 by the English navigator's Captain James Cook and Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer. Cook continued his explorations throughout the 18th century.
The majority of the credit for finding and charting the islands should go to Captain William Bligh, who visited Fiji after the Bounty uprising in 1789. The first Europeans to settle and live among the Fijians were runaway prisoners from the Australian penal colonies and shipwrecked sailors. Missionaries and traders began to arrive in the middle of the 19th century.
When missionaries came to control in Fiji, the practise of cannibalism swiftly disappeared. Ratu Seru Cakobau's conversion to Christianity in 1854 marked the end of tribal warfare, and the rest of the country soon followed suit.
Between 1879 and 1916, Indians were brought in as indentured servants to work on the sugar plantations. After the indentured system was abolished, many people continued to work as independent farmers and business owners. They currently account for 43.6% of the population.
