Kaveri Nisargadhama : Abode of Nature

By Akshatha

Kaveri Nisargadhama is an island and a forest resort maintained by the Forest Department of Karnataka. The island is formed by the Kaveri river which surrounds this beautiful land. It is one of the popular tourist places in Karnataka.

Kaveri Nisargadhama in Kodagu, is a huge forest area (more like a park) which tourists can cover in a day. Deer park, elephant safari, boating, a small museum, a handicrafts shop are the main things here.

It is situated at a distance of 4 km from Kushalnagar and takes around 15 minutes from the bus stand. The forest resort is a popular weekend getaway from Mysore and Bangalore.

If the water levels are too high, boating and elephant safari is cancelled. Otherwise, tourists can enjoy both rides in Nisargadhama.

Tourists should walk through the hanging bridge across the Cauvery river. If the river is full, you will enjoy the sight even more. Tourists have to walk through this bridge to go inside the reserve.

After crossing the bridge, you get to see a small eatery and a shed with many rabbits. From there, people can stroll around the resort.

Nisargadhama also has lodges and wooden cottages for a stay. It's a good experience to stay overnight in the wooden lodges, overlooking the river.

However, one has to make proper arrangements for food because the eatery inside is not very good. Just outside the entrance, there is one restaurant where you can get some better quality food.

The resort is not very well maintained but the eco-friendly ambiance, the melody of the river, buzz of insects, wooden swing tied to the trees are the things which accompany you there.

We'll take a pictorial tour around the woods of Kaveri Nisargadhama in Kodagu!
