Indian Travellers Can Visit Thailand Visa-Free Until November 2024

Since November 2023, Indian travellers can enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand until November 2024. Starting December 2024, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) will be necessary, streamlining the entry process while maintaining security measures.

Since November 2023, Indian travellers have been able to visit Thailand without a visa. This policy will remain in effect until November 2024. However, starting December 1, 2024, all travellers who are currently exempt from visas, including Indians, must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before visiting Thailand. The ETA system aims to simplify entry procedures and enhance the monitoring of foreign visitors.

The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set a timeline for implementing the ETA system. It will begin with a pilot phase and be fully integrated with Thailand's e-Visa services by June 2025. This new system will offer an online application process for eligible travellers, making it easier to apply for travel authorisation.

Key Changes in the ETA System

Under the new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, visa-exempt travellers must secure an ETA before each trip to Thailand. The ETA allows entry for up to 60 days and offers an option to extend the stay by 30 days. The entire application process is conducted online, requiring digital submission of traveller details.

The ETA is free of charge and will be integrated with Thailand's e-Visa system by June 2025 for a unified application process. A QR code associated with the ETA will facilitate faster immigration clearance, further simplifying entry into Thailand.

Unchanged Rules Despite New System

Despite the introduction of the ETA system, some regulations remain unchanged in Thailand. Travellers must adhere to their authorised stay limits as the system closely monitors visa-exempt nationals. Overstaying can result in fines and other penalties.

While the ETA may expedite immigration clearance, it does not guarantee entry into Thailand. Border officials retain the authority to deny entry if deemed necessary, ensuring that discretion at the border remains intact.

The rollout of this new system signifies a significant shift in how travellers enter Thailand. By streamlining processes and enhancing security measures, it aims to improve overall travel experiences while maintaining strict compliance with immigration rules.
