Giridih, other than being a top tourist place is also one of the famous mining towns of Jharkhand. It is an old and beautiful hamlet located amidst the hills. Although not the usual holiday destination travellers head for, Giridih has its own attractions and is a hub for adventure.
The word 'Giridih' means land of hills and hillocks which focuses on the upland area of the region. Vast stretch of forests covers maximum part of the district. Sal tree is mostly found here apart from bamboo, Semal, Mahua and Palash.
It is one of the best places for bird enthusiasts and adventure seekers who can indulge in boating, rock-climbing, parasailing and kayaking.
Attractions
The Parasnath Hills or Sri Sammeta Shikharji is the top tourist sightseeing spot of Giridih. Jharkhand's highest mountain peak made of granite is also located here. The Usri Falls is another top tourist spot where you can head to. The Khandoli Dam is an attractive water reservoir and dam. The famous Harihar Dham is a pilgrimage site, with the largest Shivalinga of India being situated here.

Harihar Dham is one of the top pilgrimage spots in the Giridih district of Jharkhand. Also known as the Harihar Dham temple, visit it to see the biggest Shivalinga in the world which stands at a height of 65 ft. Devotees throughout the nation visit this temple during Shravan Poornima. Many tourists come here around the year.
Madhuban
Madhuban is one of the best tourist attractions among several places in Giridih district of Jharkhand. It lies in Pirtland Block and is a religious site for the Jains. Samosharan temple and Bhomiyaji Asthan are the most important Jain temples in Madhuban. You have to trek to the Parasnath Temple for which the journey starts from Madhuban. It is a stretch of 13 km to the northern side of the temple, and you should know that even the bus route ends at Madhuban from where you has no other way other than trekking.
Khandoli Dam
Khandoli, situated in Jharkand is one of the attractive tourist spots for adventure seekers. It is a water reservoir which is best known for various water sports and adventure. It is a paradise for bird enthusiasts who get to see a variety of birds here. Travellers here can enjoy boating, mountaineering, rock-climbing, parasailing and kayaking apart from the Elephant and Camel safaris. Pedal boats, speedboats and water scooters are some water activities which can be enjoyed on the Khandoli Dam. Scuba diving, rafting, canoeing, sailing, ringo ride, waterskiing and surfing attract tourists here.
Usri Falls

Usri Falls, located on the Tundi Road of Giridih district is one of the best tourist picnic spots of the state. The river separates into three different streams when it falls down into 40 ft deep gorge. Impenetrable forest of the Parasnath Hills covers the surrounding of Usri Falls. The gushing river amidst the Parasnath Hills is a mesmerising scenic view.

Parasnath Hill is not only the highest mountain peak in Jharkhand but also the highest mountain in the southern part of Himalayas. It is one of the most important and sanctified pilgrimage spot for the Jains. It is here where the 20 Tirthankaras out of 24 have attained salvation. The hill is surrounded by dense forest known as the Madhuban. Tourists interested in trekking have to start from Madhuban. The hill is easily accessible from the northern side. Tourists unable to walk can seek the help of 'doli wallahs'. Carrying a torch is a must for those climbing up hill. Stalls on the way serve tea, coffee and other energizing drinks.

Giridih is best known for various adventurous spots where tourists get the chance to experience daring activities. Paragliding, water sports and parasailing are some of the activities that are popular here. Hot air balloon ride is another venturesome activity which tourists can enjoy here.
How to Reach
By Air: Though there is no airport in Giridih, a landing airstrip fulfills some of the necessities. Nearest airports are Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi 208km. It is connected to other major cities.
By Train: Single passenger train runs from Madhupur Junction to Giridih Station five times a day. Parasnath Station is another important station which is 48km away from Giridih. A direct train runs from Giridih to Kolkata and Patna.
By Road: Giridih is well connected by roadways as Grand Trunk Road passes through the district. Bus terminal being located in the centre of the city, is easily accessible from any corner. Both private and Government buses are available. Regular bus service not only
