Apart from the story of three princes of the Mughal dynasty being killed here, it is also said that Aurangzeb displayed the head of his elder brother at this building after killing him in a fight for the throne.
According to stories, it is also believed that Jehangir, the son of Akbar, after occupying the throne, ordered his men to kill the sons of Abdul Rahim Khan-I-Khana, who was one amongst the Navaratnas in Akbar's court, as they were against him becoming the ruler of the Mughals.
This is also the spot where several fights happened during the struggle for independence of India. After all this bloodshed, the name of this building has become Khooni Darwaza.
