The Ellora Caves located about 30 km from Auranagabad is a famous archaeological site and is listed under UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The caves are believed to have been carved out during the Rashtrakuta Dynasty and till date carries its ancient charm.
There are a total of 34 caves here and each of them fall unde three different groups. The first 12 caves are believed to have been carved by Buddhist monks as they carry many sculptures and relics of Buddhism.
The next 17 is said to have been made by Hindu saints while the remaining five were made by the Jain monks. All these caves are close to one another thus showing us the harmony in which all these religions prevailed here.
