Festivals are the best ways to know about vivacious cultures. Chinakkathoor Pooram is one such festival which brings out the best of Kerala.
Chinakkathoor Pooram 2016 was recently held on 22nd of February. It is an annual festival which is organised in Sri Chinakkathoor Bhagavathy Temple complex at Ottappalam, Palakkad. . It is also one of the festivals where elephant procession is held in Kerala.
The grand parade of 33 tuskers is the highlight of Chinakkathoor Pooram in Kerala. However, this year effigies of elephants were also used along with the real ones. The traditional orchestra Panchavadyam and the procession of art forms like Theyyam, Kaalavela, Kuthiravela, etc. enthrall the audience.
Other highlights of this festival are the puppet show, Tholppavakoothu and the procession of Kuthira (horse) and the Kaala (bull) models. Overall, this annual extravaganza is celebrated with all the fun and fervour.

Chinakkathoor Bhagavathy Temple
Chinakkathoor Bhagavathy Temple in Ottapalam has two shrines namely, 'thazhekkavu' (lower shrine) and 'melekkavu' (upper shrine). Chinakkathoor Pooram is help in this temple ground.
