Severe Impact on Air and Rail Travel

According to the Times of India, transit hubs such as Koyambedu, Tambaram, and Beach stations were in a state of chaos as suburban train services were cancelled due to heavy rain and waterlogging. Similarly, the Chennai airport was forced to shut down, causing a diversion of flights to other cities. The Southern Railway later managed to operate suburban trains as passenger specials every hour across all sections to minimize the inconvenience caused to the passengers.

The Chennai airport operations were suspended for a period of two hours, from 9.40 a.m. to 11.40 a.m. Consequently, 70 flights were cancelled. Moreover, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) also faced difficulties in operating its buses due to waterlogging. With most cab drivers avoiding work in fear of vehicle damage, commuters were left with autorickshaws as their only transit option, albeit at exorbitant fares.
