Thekkady is one of the places in Kerala that are known for their natural grace. Located in Idukki district, Thekkady is among the top tourist places in Kerala. The diverse flora and fauna, wildlife and the chains of hills are just a few reasons for visiting this place.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best tourist attractions of Thekkady. This evergreen forest is also a tiger reserve, with Mullaperyar Dam and Periyar river adding to its beauty. The wildlife reserve is home to many species of wildlife that include sambar, wild boar, bison, langura dn tigers amng the rest. The sight of a herd of elephants is not an uncommon sight here.

Murikkady

Vast expanses of cardamom, coffee and pepper plantations make Murikkady an ideal spot for nature lovers. The spice-smelling air and the lush greenery at this place attracts tea and coffee lovers alike. This small haven is located around 5km from Thekkady.

Pandikuzhi

The gurgling streams, the gushing waterfalls and the deep valleys of Pandikuzhi calls for some adventure such as trekking, as well as some great photography. The place is located between Chellarkovil and Tamil Nadu border.

Kumily

Kumily, the plantation town is located very close to Thekkady. Kumily has a pleasant weather throughout the year, and is only 4km from Thekkady. Being a major spice trade centre in Kerala, Kumily sees a lot of domestic and international travellers each year.

Mangaladevi Temple

This 1000 year old temple is located in the thick forest of Periyar Tiger Reserve. Located around 15km from Thekkady, the temple is wortha visit to explore the surrounding scenic vistas.

Vandanmedu

Vandanmedu, a small village in Idukki district, is the largest producer of cardamom. Take a stroll through the spice plantations here and enjoy the greenery around. Vandanmedu is also a great destination for trekking and rock climbing.

Kadathanadan Kalari Centre is one of the major centres of Kalari, which is a traditional martial arts form in Kerala. The audience can view this art form that represents Kerala's unique culture.
