The beautiful Kalka to Shimla Railway journey is the one to be experienced for sure. Shimla, which became a summer capital of the British, was not connected with the other parts of India. So they brought this rail route to their advantage and Kalka to Shimla Railway is a heritage now.

The lofty mountains accompanied with occasional dark tunnels makes it an interesting route. Out of several paths, an unfinished tunnel in the Barog village became famous.

Barog is one of the railway stations in the Kalka-Shimla train route. It is known for the story of Colonial Barog, an engineer who was assigned to make this tunnel. The story goes like this - Barog, a confident architect, ordered to carve the Barog tunnel from two sides. His idea was to build it faster, but something went wrong, the two outlets didn't connect.

Instead of being a grand architecture, Barog tunnel became a disaster. Humiliated by his unsuccessful work, Colonel Barog took his horse inside the tunnel and committed suicide. Later, a new Barog tunnel was made and was named after him.

Today, the unfinished tunnel is a place of adventure for many people. They just go there to see whether Barog's ghost still exists. It is also said that the new tunnel is haunted by the ghostly presence of the engineer who gallops around on his horse.

Some even claim to have seen his apparition, and it seems he even talks to people whom he likes. Though it sounds spooky, it is interesting and seems like made up stories. Whatever it is, the Barog railway station creates a lot of curiosity among people.

Barog is around 55km to Shimla and has become a hauntingly compelling tourist place in the recent years. The unfinished Barog tunnel is now in a ruined state with water dripping from the ceiling and nothing but darkness inside.

It is up to you to decide whether to see it as a haunting place or an interesting one. The tale of Colonel Barog has got more importance than during his lifetime.

Let us hope that Barog is at least happy now that people know his contribution and happily gallops!
