Andaman Done Right: A Relaxed Itinerary You’ll Actually Enjoy

Andaman isn't the kind of trip you rush. It's where time stretches a little; mornings start with quiet beaches, afternoons blur into turquoise water, and evenings end with sunsets that don't feel real. The best way to do it? Keep it simple, don't overpack your days, and let the islands set the pace.

If you're planning your first trip, this 5-6 day itinerary hits the right balance between exploring and slowing down.

Before You Go: Quick Reality Check

  • Best time to visit: October to May (clear skies, calm seas, perfect for water activities)
  • Ideal trip duration: 5-7 days to cover major islands comfortably
  • How to reach: Direct flights to Port Blair from cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi (2.5-6 hours)

Day 1: Port Blair - Arrival + Easy Start

You'll land in Port Blair, and honestly, this day should stay light. Check in, step out in the evening, and ease into island time. A visit to Cellular Jail and the light & sound show gives a glimpse into the islands' history; but don't try to do too much.

Walk by the coast, grab a relaxed dinner, and call it a day early. Tomorrow is when the trip really begins.

Day 2: Havelock Island - Beaches That Feel Unreal

Take a morning ferry to Havelock Island (now officially Swaraj Dweep). This is where Andaman starts to feel like Andaman.

Radhanagar Beach, often ranked among India's best, is all about long stretches of white sand and clear blue water. No rush, no checklist. Just spend time here.

If you're up for it, this is also the best place to try scuba diving or snorkeling, thanks to calm waters and good visibility during peak season

Day 3: Havelock - Slow Morning + Water Time

Keep this day intentionally slow. Maybe a sunrise walk, maybe a boat ride, maybe nothing at all. Elephant Beach is a popular choice for water sports, but you don't need to chase everything.

This is the day where most people realise, the best part of Andaman is doing less.

Day 4: Neil Island - Quiet, Underrated, Peaceful

Take a short ferry to Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep). It's smaller, quieter, and feels more local. Natural Bridge, Laxmanpur Beach, and Bharatpur Beach are easy to cover without rushing.

Everything here feels closer, distances, crowds, noise. It's a good reset before heading back.

Day 5: Back to Port Blair - Flexible Day

Return to Port Blair and keep this day flexible.
You can:

  • Visit Ross Island (ruins + history + sea views)
  • Take a short harbour cruise
  • Or just relax and shop for souvenirs

No pressure, this is your buffer day.

Day 6: Departure (Or Add One More Island Day)

If you have time, you can extend:

  • One more beach day
  • Or explore places like Baratang (limestone caves, mangroves)

Otherwise, head back with that very specific Andaman feeling, like you didn't do everything, but you experienced enough.

What Makes This Itinerary Work

  • Not rushed; you actually enjoy places
  • Covers the three main islands (Port Blair, Havelock, Neil)
  • Balances activity + downtime
  • Leaves room for flexibility (important for island travel)

Final Take

Andaman isn't about ticking off spots. It's about:

  • clear water
  • slow mornings
  • and days that don't feel planned

If you let the trip breathe a little, it ends up being better than anything you could have planned.
