10 Amazing Places to See in India

You can never tire of travelling in India as it has many places and surprises in store for its travellers. The beaches, mountains, historical monuments and wildlife is explored by tourists coming here but there many more places that are left to be seen.

Few of these places may surprise its visitors with its odd traditions while others are bound to leave you speechless. So if you feel you have travelled the whole of India and seen everything, here are a few unique places that you might have missed out on your travels.

1. Botanical Garden, Kolkata
Kolkata, the 'City of Joy', is home to one of nature's wonders. Located at the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden is the 1,250 year old Great Banyan Tree, with a canopy covering an area of 4 acres. It is considered to be the widest tree in the world. A unique feature about this tree is that after being struck by lightning, the tree was diseased and its trunk had to be removed in 1925. However, it still continues to live without its main trunk and has 3,300 aerial roots reaching down to the ground. Tourists who come here think they have entered a forest but what appears to be a forest is actually one single tree.

2. Kodinhi, Kerala
An absolutely unbelievable phenomenon, but you have to see it to believe it. The town of Kodinhi in Kerala is known to have the highest percentage of twins born in the country. Also referred to as the 'Twin Town' don't freak out if you suddenly start seeing two of nearly everybody here. Some even say the animals born here are also in twos.

3. Magnetic Hill, Ladakh
Amongst the many natural wonders in India the one that is definitely going to baffle you is the Magnetic Hill in Ladakh. So what do you think, do the mountains truly have magnetic powers or is it some other phenomenon? Travel to Ladakh to find out for yourself!

4. Mawlynnong, Megahalaya
Cleanliness is next to godliness, this is something that everyone learns in their childhood but forget as they grow. Mawlynnong in Megahalaya is one place where the phrase is followed as a rule. It is known as Asia's Cleanest Village and if the picture does not suffice for you then do make a trip here and be astounded by what you see.

5. Karni Mata Temple, Rajasthan
Now this one can send a few of you into a tizzy but the Karni Mata Temple in Rajasthan is home to over 20,000 rats. Devotees coming to this temple offer milk to these rats as they believe that they are the reincarnated family members of Karni Mata. Weird but true!

6. Nohkalikai Falls, Cherrapunji
One person's tragedy is another's enjoyment. This is the best way to describe Nohkalikai Falls near Cherrapunji. Tourists come here from far and wide to marvel this beautiful waterfall but only few are aware of its history. The legend behind the name of the water fall, which means ‘Jump of Ka Likai' is that a lady named Ka Likai jumped from the cliff near the falls on finding that her husband had killed her infant daughter.

7. Lepakshi, Andhra Pradesh
The village in Lepaksi is known for its various relics but one of these relics is an architectural marvel. There is a temple here which has a pillar that does not touch the ground. Popularly called the 'Hanging Pillar', it has been a major crowd puller here with tourists coming from far and wide just to witness it.

8. Majuli, Assam
Another natural wonder in India is the largest river island of Majuli in the Brahmaputra River. It is a popular cultural hotspot and tourists travel from far and wide to witness its beauty.

9. Kolukkumalai, Munnar
A unique place in India is the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, located at an elevation of 2,438 mt above sea level. It is the highest tea estate in India and travellers visiting the region are intoxicated by the beautiful aroma of tea.

10. Gomateshwara Statue, Shravanabelagola
Another wonder in India is the 60 ft tall Gomateshwara Statue at Shravanabelgola. The statue is carved out of a single block of granite and can be seen from 30 km away. It is a Jain religious spot and devotees come here to seek the blessing of the god.
