Though every season in the Ri-Bhoi district has its own charm, the best season to visit the destinations here is the summers. During the summers, it is dry here making it easy to travel around the place. Though the heat can cause some problem, there is enough greenery all around to compensate for that.
The summer months in the district are May, June and July. Summers in Ri-Bhoi district ranges from being moderate to getting uncomfortably hot. The temperature is known to reach 30 degrees Celsius while the average temperature lingers around 25 degrees Celsius, especially in Nongpoh. With each passing year, the temperature is increasing in the region.
Like the rest of the state, the Ri-Bhoi district also sees torrential rainfall during the monsoons. The monsoon sets in by end of June or July and lasts till September-October. However, rainfall has considerably reduced over the years due to global warming and its evidence can be seen with the lowering of water level in Umiam Lake.
The winter months in Ri-Bhoi are December, January and February. The temperature climbs down considerably making it very cold here. The temperature can come down to as low as 4 degrees Celsius. Warm woollens are a must for tourists planning to stay a few days in the district during the winters.
