Ramadan is a special time for Muslims all over the world. Ramadan is a time to strengthen one's relationship with Allah and to show gratitude for blessings received. It's a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from food and drink. It's also a time for increased prayer, reading the Quran, and giving to those in need.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It holds immense spiritual importance for Muslims and is considered one of the five pillars of Islam.

The month begins and ends with the sighting of the crescent moon. Because the Islamic calendar is shorter than the Gregorian calendar, Ramadan shifts by 10–12 days earlier each year.

Fasting during Ramadan is obligatory for adult Muslims. From dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib), Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs. Fasting serves as an act of self-discipline, promoting empathy for the less fortunate.

Ramadan encourages believers to engage in introspection and deepen their connection with Allah. It’s a time for prayer, repentance, and seeking forgiveness.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever observes fasts during Ramadan out of sincere faith, all their past sins will be forgiven.” Muslims view Ramadan as an opportunity to cleanse their hearts and souls.

The first verses of the Qur’an were revealed during Ramadan to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while he was in spiritual retreat in the cave of Hira. Muslims continue the tradition of reciting the entire Qur’an during this month.

Some Muslims undertake the Umrah pilgrimage during Ramadan. While Umrah doesn’t replace the obligatory Hajj, performing it during Ramadan carries significant rewards.

Muslims traditionally break their fast during Ramadan in a ritualistic and meaningful manner. Fasting extends beyond abstaining from food and drink. Muslims also restrain their tongues, temper, and gaze. It’s a time to learn self-control and develop the spiritual dimension. Before fasting begins, Muslims have a pre-dawn meal called sahur. As soon as the sun sets, they break their fast without delay.

Ramadan fosters a sense of community. Muslims engage in acts of charity (Zakat), helping those in need. The month culminates in the joyous celebration of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.
