Prime Minister Modi kicked off his Kaziranga experience with an enchanting elephant safari in the Mihimukh area of the Central Kohora Range within the park. This unique safari offered him a close-up encounter with the park's rich biodiversity.

Notably, Prime Minister Modi made history by becoming the first Prime Minister to spend a night in Kaziranga. His overnight stay emphasizes the crucial role of conservation efforts and wildlife protection in this ecologically significant region.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the impressive 125-foot-tall "Statue of Valour" dedicated to the late Ahom general Lachit Borphukan in Jorhat. This statue serves as a tribute to the bravery and historical significance of General Lachit.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi headed to Meleng Meteli Pothar in the Jorhat district. There, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for central and state projects totaling approximately Rs 18,000 crore. These projects aim to boost infrastructure and foster development in the region.

He encouraged everyone to visit Kaziranga and immerse themselves in its unparalleled beauty and warmth

Kaziranga is renowned for hosting two-thirds of the world’s Indian rhinoceroses. The rhino population here is closely monitored, with the latest census reporting 2,613 rhinos. Apart from rhinos, the park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer.

It is also recognized as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International for its avifaunal species conservation efforts. Located on the edge of the Eastern Himalaya biodiversity hotspot, Kaziranga boasts high species diversity.

The park features a vast expanse of tall elephant grass, marshland, and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests. Four major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, criss-cross the park, creating a unique ecosystem.
