Yellow Alert for Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Other Tamil Nadu Districts as IMD Predicts Stormy Weather

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for parts of Tamil Nadu as the state is expected to receive heavy rainfall, especially in the Ghat regions, on Sunday. Districts like Coimbatore (Ghat areas), Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, and Tenkasi are likely to see thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, creating challenging weather conditions for residents.

Tamil Nadu IMD Predicts Stormy Weather

Rainfall in Different Parts of the State

Over the past few days, many southern parts of Tamil Nadu and some areas in the north, along with Puducherry, have received rainfall. However, Karaikal has remained dry. This difference in weather patterns shows how varied the climate can be across the region during this season.

Temperature Variations

Tamil Nadu has seen a wide range in temperatures. The highest temperature was recorded in Tirupattur at 37.8°C. On the other hand, the lowest minimum temperature in the plains was 20.6°C at Coimbatore Airport. Some areas have experienced a rise in maximum temperatures by 3-6°C, while other regions recorded temperatures 2-4°C lower than the usual range for this time of year.

Weather System Causing the Change

The IMD has explained that these weather changes are due to a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which extends up to 3.1 km above the mean sea level. A trough also stretches from Madhya Maharashtra to North Tamil Nadu across Interior Karnataka. Meanwhile, a previous circulation over Tamil Nadu has become weaker.

Forecast for the Coming Days

According to the IMD, there will be no major change in maximum temperatures on April 5 and 6. However, a small rise of 2-3°C is likely in a few places between April 7 and 9. This means some areas in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal might see warmer than usual daytime temperatures, especially in the interior regions.

Chennai Weather Update

For Chennai, the forecast says partly cloudy skies with a chance of light rain in some areas. Temperatures in the city are expected to stay between 33-34°C during the day and around 27-28°C at night, making for fairly stable but humid weather.

Tamil Nadu is expected to face mixed weather conditions in the coming days, with rainfall, thunderstorms, and varying temperatures. People living in the affected districts should stay updated with the latest weather information and take precautions during heavy rain and lightning.
