Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has initiated a significant change on Bannerghatta Road near Lakkasandra underground station, marking a temporary disruption for the upcoming year. This move, starting from April 1, is to accommodate the construction of the south-side entry structure of the station, impacting northbound traffic from the MICO signal up to the Anepalya junction. As the city braces for this change, the redirection of traffic patterns is set to alter daily commutes.

Adjusting to New Traffic Routes
Travelers on Bannerghatta Road heading towards Anepalya junction will now face a detour. They are required to take a right at the MICO signal, proceed through the BOSCH link road to reach the Adugodi signal, and then make a left turn. However, there's no alternate route suggested for vehicles moving towards Dairy Circle from Anepalya junction. For those commuting from Dairy Circle to Shantinagar, the recommended path is a left turn at the 7th Main Road of Wilson Garden.
Impact on Metro Project Progress
This temporary traffic adjustment is tied to the construction of the Pink Line underground metro station, a key component of the BMRCL's Phase 2 project. This ambitious extension, known as Reach 6, stretches from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, covering a distance of 21.26 km and including 18 stations. It comprises an elevated section of 7.50 km with six stations and an underground section of 13.76 km with 12 stations, aiming to boost the city's metro network.
Commuter Concerns Amid Construction
The announcement has sparked concerns among daily commuters like Supreeth Kumar, who worries about the increased traffic congestion during peak hours. The closure and consequent detours are expected to complicate commutes for many, highlighting the need for community cooperation and understanding as the city navigates through these changes.
The BMRCL's efforts to enhance Bangalore's metro infrastructure with the Pink Line are projected to conclude by 2025. This development promises to significantly improve the city's public transportation options, offering a more efficient and reliable alternative for commuters. As construction progresses, residents are encouraged to stay informed about traffic updates and plan their routes accordingly to minimize inconvenience.
