Virtual Walkthrough on International Museum Day
In May, on the occasion of International Museum Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a three-day International Museum Expo at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. During this event, he also launched a virtual walkthrough of the upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum. The virtual experience takes visitors through various segments of India's civilization, including ancient town planning systems, Vedas, Upanishads, Ancient Medical Knowledge, Maurya to Gupta Empire, Vijayanagara Empire, Mughal Empire, colonial rule, and many other dynasties that shaped India's history.
A Grand Vision for the Museum
During the inauguration ceremony of the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi officially announced the ambitious project of Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum. The museum will be a treasure trove of India's cultural legacy, showcasing the country's civilizational culture spanning over 5,000 years.
An Expansive and Thematic Museum
The Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum will be built in the North and South Blocks of Delhi, covering a vast area of 1.17 lakh square meters and boasting 950 rooms spread over a basement and three storeys. The museum will be divided into eight thematic segments, each delving into significant periods of Indian history. These segments will encompass ancient Indian knowledge, the ancient to medieval era, the medieval to transition phase, modern India, colonial rule, the freedom struggle, and the post-independence era from 1947 onwards.
The transition from the Existing National Museum
The current National Museum, situated at Janpath, will be replaced by the magnificent Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum. The existing building will be integrated into the Kartavya Path, while its precious collections will be relocated to the North and South Blocks as part of this colossal project.
A Glimpse into the Future
The virtual walk-through of the museum offers a captivating digital experience, providing a sneak peek into the galleries and gardens that will grace the completed museum. From India's ancient town planning systems to the grandeur of the Mughal Empire, visitors can immerse themselves in the richness of Indian history and culture.
A Promising Timeline
When questioned about the timeline for completing the new museum project, Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs, Meenakshi Lekhi, expressed the government's commitment to adhering to timelines and even endeavoring to finish ahead of schedule. The announcement in 2021 that the North and South Blocks will house the museum demonstrates the government's dedication to preserving and celebrating India's heritage.
The Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum promises to be a jewel in the crown of India's cultural heritage. As the largest museum in the world, it will be a testament to the everlasting spirit and grandeur of India, offering a gateway for visitors to explore the country's diverse history and cherish its timeless legacy.
