Govt Extends Visas Of All Foreign Nationals Stuck In India Due To Covid-19 Till Sep 30

The foreign nationals will not be required to submit an application to FRRO/FRO concerned for visa extension.

The government of India has proclaimed the extension of visas for all foreigners stranded in India due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. This facility which was presently available till August 31, 2021, has now been extended by the central government till September 30, 2021. This applies to all the Afghan Nationals stranded in India too.

They will not be required to submit an application to FRRO/FRO concerned for visa extension. Many foreign nationals have been applying for an extension of their visas or stay stipulation period on a monthly basis.

"The central government had facilitated the stay of such foreign nationals within India by giving deemed extension of their regular visa or e-visa or stay stipulation period on gratis basis without levy of any overstay penalty." the MHA said in a statement.

"The matter has now been reconsidered by the MHA in the light of non- resumption of normal commercial flight operations, and it has accordingly been decided that the Indian visa or stay stipulation period of such foreign nationals stranded in India will be considered as deemed to be valid till 30.09.2021 on gratis basis without levy of any overstay penalty," the statement added.

After a full lockdown to control the first coronavirus wave, parts of India have been kept under lockdown-like restrictions to control the spread of the more dangerous second wave.
