Indian Railways has completed the final high-speed evaluation of the domestically manufactured Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Successfully Completes CRS High-Speed Trial at 180 km/h on Kota-Nagda Section
On the Kota-Nagda route, the train attained 180 kmph, signaling its readiness for future deployment and reinforcing India's drive toward advanced, self-reliant rail technology for long-haul passengers. In this essential test, the train's behavior at elevated speeds was scrutinized through comprehensive technical checks.
Ride quality, body movement and vibration, braking response, emergency braking systems, and onboard safety mechanisms were all assessed. The Commissioner of Railway Safety deemed the test fully satisfactory and officially announced the high-speed trial a success.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Train high-speed trial and Indian Railways safety focus
The overnight-capable Vande Bharat Sleeper train set comprises 16 coaches designed for long-distance travel, prioritizing comfort and safety for passengers. It offers sleeper berths, next-generation suspension, automatic doors, modern restrooms, CCTV monitoring, digital information panels, and energy-efficient systems, aligning with premium rail travel expectations in India. Safety and advanced technology underpin this new train. Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains feature KAVACH, crashworthy and jerk-free semi-permanent couplers, and Anti-Climbers. Each coach end includes fire barrier doors, with enhanced fire protection such as aerosol-based detection and suppression in electrical panels and restrooms to minimize onboard hazards.

The technical design also prioritizes energy efficiency and sanitation. A regenerative braking system recovers energy, and air-conditioning units are equipped with an in-house UV-C lamp-based disinfection setup. Central automatic plug doors, fully sealed wider gangways, and CCTV cameras in every coach enhance safety and ensure smooth passenger flow at high speeds. Indian Railways has introduced features to improve communication and access. Each coach includes an emergency talk-back device that connects passengers with the Train Manager or the Loco Pilot if needed.
Driving coaches at both ends have specially equipped lavatories for Divyangjan passengers. An ergonomically designed ladder aids passengers in safely reaching upper berths. To support maintenance and reliability, a Centralized Coach Monitoring System tracks critical amenities such as air-conditioning and saloon lighting. The collected data enables maintenance teams to respond promptly, aiming to boost passenger comfort while keeping high-speed services reliable on busy intercity and overnight routes. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw posted a video of the high-speed trial on social media, showing the train reaching 180 km/h on the Kota-Nagda section. A water-glass test demonstrated that glasses remained steady without spilling, illustrating the ride quality and suspension performance.
