Uttarakhand Launched Helicopter Services for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat; check details

A new helicopter service from Naini Saini Airport in Uttarakhand has been initiated to bolster tourism in the region. Under the Uttarakhand government's Heli Darshan scheme, Joint Magistrate Ashish Mishra inaugurated the service. Utilizing an Mi-19 helicopter, pilgrims will be transported to the revered Adi Kailash and Om Parvat peaks in the Vyas Valley region, offering a scenic flight over the majestic peaks. This endeavor signifies a major leap forward in Hindu pilgrimage tourism, as the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) prepares to introduce the first-ever helicopter services for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat.

The inaugural helicopter flight witnessed over 10 pilgrims embarking on this transformative journey, marking a significant milestone in accessibility. Adi Kailash, nestled in the splendid Vyas Valley, holds profound significance as the second abode of Lord Shiva and Parvati. On the other hand, Om Parvat, situated on the India-Nepal-Tibet border, is a natural marvel sculpted into a perfect 'Om' symbol. Previously, the closest vantage point to observe Om Parvat was Nabhidang, necessitating an arduous 11 km trek from the Old Lipu Lekh Pass.

Several pilgrims participated in the inaugural phase of the scheme, currently in its experimental stage. If successful, the service is slated to operate five days a week starting from the upcoming month. Ms. Arya emphasized the scheme's significance, particularly in promoting the Adi Kailash region, which garnered attention following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jolingkong for a darshan of the Adi Kailash peak last October. The initiative aims to fulfill devotees' spiritual aspirations, enabling them to embark on a one-day aerial darshan of both sites. Additionally, a five-day helicopter yatra is scheduled to commence from April 15th.

To ensure a comfortable journey through the snowy landscape, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) will replace strenuous treks from Jyolingkong and Nabhidang. Scheduled from April 15th to May 1st, 2024, with a subsequent resumption in November until March, this groundbreaking helicopter yatra aims to redefine the pilgrimage experience. It promises breathtaking aerial views, comfortable travel options, and a focus on community development, heralding a new era for Hindu pilgrimage tourism in India.
