In a vibrant celebration of the cultural richness and economic potential of Northeast India, the inaugural edition of "Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024" is set to grace Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, from the 13th to the 17th of January 2024. Organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, this five-day extravaganza promises an immersive cultural journey, intertwining traditional arts, crafts, and vibrant performances under one dynamic umbrella.

Cultural Mosaic and Economic Catalyst
Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry, unveiled the grandeur of Uttar Purvi Mahotsav, describing it as a meticulously curated platform to showcase the rich diversity of Northeast India. Beyond a mere celebration, the Mahotsav stands as an economic catalyst, fostering exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agro products, and tourism offerings. With an emphasis on growth and development, the festival envisions creating valuable economic opportunities for the region.
Diverse Showcases and Engaging Discussions
The Mahotsav will witness the participation of 250 weavers, farmers, and entrepreneurs, creating a vibrant showcase of Northeast India's cultural jewels. Engaging panel discussions, such as "Towards Prosperity" and "Women Leaders in the Northeast," aim to spotlight the untapped potential of the region. The festival's thematic panels, including "Northeast in Action," explore the contributions of the youth and workforce, unveiling their dynamic role in shaping India's economic tapestry.
Buyer-Seller Meets and Business Opportunities
The festival's significance extends to providing a conducive platform for significant buyer-seller meets, fostering interactions across various sectors. Sessions will focus on handlooms, handicrafts, agro, and allied products, as well as tourism. These initiatives aim to connect artisans, weavers, and entrepreneurs, with plans to onboard 5,000 - 10,000 artisans annually. The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) partnership is set to empower small businesses in the digital commerce realm.
Cultural Showcase Extravaganza
Immerse yourself in an enchanting journey through traditional dances and mesmerizing performances that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Northeast. Highlights include the grace and energy of the Satriya Dance of Assam, the Hojagiri Dance of Tripura, and a captivating Fashion Show. The festival continues with unique showcases such as Tangtha Fight from Manipur, the dynamic Lion Dance of Sikkim, and a musical extravaganza featuring rock band Bottle Rockets India.
Inauguration and Foundation Laying
The festivities extend to the inauguration of Barak Hostel at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), accommodating 400 students from the Northeast. Additionally, the foundation stone for a North East Convention Centre at Dwarka, New Delhi, will be laid, aiming to become a cultural and information hub of Northeast India.
