Use of Delhi Metro Services by Members of Ministry to Save Fuel After the Order Declared by CM Rekha Gupta

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to save petrol and diesel and make energy conservation a mass movement, the Government of Delhi has decided to reduce the number of vehicles used by the chief minister, ministers, and government officials for official work.

Use of Public Transport

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government will use fewer vehicles and encourage carpooling and public transport. In a post on X, she said that she, her cabinet colleagues, BJP MLAs, public representatives, government officers, and departments would use only the minimum number of vehicles required for work. She added that saving energy is linked to national interest, and everyone should contribute to fuel conservation.

The chief minister also said that the Delhi government is committed to promoting fuel-saving measures and encouraging people to use public transport. She appealed to Delhi residents to support the Prime Minister's call and participate in the nationwide effort to conserve energy.

As part of these austerity steps, several ministers have already started using public transport. Law Minister Kapil Mishra travelled by metro on Wednesday and said he would continue using public transport or a single official vehicle whenever needed. Education Minister Ashish Sood travelled by metro and e-rickshaw during an inspection visit on Tuesday. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh travelled nearly 40 km from Vikaspuri to the Delhi Secretariat using a DTC bus.

Work From Home Order

Meanwhile, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) issued an order allowing one-third of Group B and Group C employees in each department to work from home. The move aims to reduce unnecessary travel, lower fuel consumption, and promote digital working practices.

Advisory for Residents

According to the order, department heads will prepare work-from-home schedules and share them with the personnel department. Employees travelling long distances using personal vehicles will be given preference for remote work arrangements. The measures are part of broader efforts to reduce fuel usage and encourage sustainable transport practices in the capital.
