Tirupati Set to Introduce Double-Decker E-Buses for Hassle-Free Public Transport
Amidst the influx of devotees and tourists thronging Tirupati to seek the blessings of Lord Venkateswara, the Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to enhance the city's public transport system. Soon, the streets of Tirupati will witness the operation of double-decker e-buses, facilitating seamless and convenient travel for the millions who visit the sacred city daily.

Tirupati, the second-largest city in South India, is all set to join Hyderabad as the second city in the region to feature double-decker e-buses. These modern buses will navigate the major tourist destinations in Tirupati, including revered temples and bustling junctions. The launch of electric double-decker buses is scheduled for the end of this month, following the successful completion of trial runs by the TMC.
Moreover, the recent inauguration of the Srinivasa Setu Elevated Expressway by Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has added another feather to Tirupati's cap. The project, valued at Rs 550 crore, has been spearheaded by the Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of the TMC, emphasizing the city's commitment to enhancing its overall infrastructure.
A significant milestone in the city's development, the introduction of double-decker buses is a testament to the TMC's vision of providing a reliable and efficient public transport network for both residents and pilgrims. Deputy Mayor Bhumana Abhinay Reddy expressed his pride in Tirupati becoming the first city in Andhra Pradesh to incorporate such buses into its public transport system, emphasizing the initiative's affordability and accessibility to all.

The newly launched double-decker e-buses, after a charging time of approximately 3 hours, can cover a distance of 250 kilometers. Offering ample space for 65 passengers across two floors, these buses come equipped with a range of amenities, including closed windows, central air conditioning, CCTV cameras, emergency exit windows, digital boards indicating stops, alarms, automatic front and rear doors, airbags, Wi-Fi, and announcement microphones.
Deputy Mayor Bhooman Abhinay Reddy highlighted the city's significant daily footfall, with over one lakh pilgrims and a population of four lakhs, necessitating the introduction of the double-decker buses. He emphasized the convenience and comfort these buses would provide to all commuters, underscoring TMC's commitment to transforming Tirupati's public transport system into a hallmark of efficiency and modernity.
As the plans for Tirupati's transportation network continue to evolve, the forthcoming deployment of the double-decker e-buses is poised to redefine the city's commuting experience, enhancing accessibility and comfort for residents and visitors alike. The move is a significant stride in Tirupati's journey towards fostering a more sustainable and efficient urban infrastructure.
