The Indian Ministry of Railways revealed plans to develop an online ticketing system for passengers who wish to take their dogs or cats on trains.
This new feature is expected to make it easier for pet owners to travel with their furry friends on Indian railways. It is important, however, for pet owners to ensure the safety, comfort, and hygiene of their pets during the journey, and to be responsible and considerate towards other passengers.
Customers will be able to purchase tickets for their pets from the comfort of their homes, avoiding the long lines they have had to wait in the past to reserve parcels at the counters.
Prior to this, pet parents had to reserve the entire coupe when ordering first-class air-conditioned tickets or cabins. To do this, they had to go to the platform's parcel booking counters on the day of travel. Additionally, passengers were permitted to transport their pets in a box in the 2nd class luggage & brake van.
However, they found this technique to be incredibly inconvenient. The Ministry of Railways intends to launch online pet ticketing as a solution to this problem.
An online pet reservation system has been proposed by the Ministry of Railways for AC-1 class trains. The idea also calls for allowing TTEs the power to book pets for travel while on board. The government anticipates that this will improve passenger convenience and comfort when traveling with pets.
The railway board has requested that CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) alter the software so that the IRCTC website may begin accepting online reservations for animals.
In addition, the article said that using the online service, rail customers will be able to purchase animal tickets on the IRCTC website using a computer or mobile device after the first train chart has been finalized.

Online reservations for tickets for animals are subject to a few restrictions, nevertheless. The ticket of the traveler must be verified. There will be no refund for the animal ticket if the passenger cancels the ticket. The animal ticket charge will not be reimbursed either if the train is postponed or canceled for longer than three hours. One ticket only that of the passenger will be refunded.
Large domestic animals like horses, cows, buffaloes, and others are scheduled for and transported in freight trains, the official added and they need to have someone looking after them on the trip. Any harm to the animals is the responsibility of the owner and they won't be the responsibility of the Railways.
